Matthew Herbert joins the line-up for Mind on the Run: The Basil Kirchin Story . 17 January 2017

Visionary producer, DJ and sonic adventurer Matthew Herbert adds further lustre to the culminating concert of Hull UK City of Culture’s extraordinary weekend celebrating the legacy of Hull’s forgotten musical genius.

The Ivor Novello-nominated composer – and collaborator with the likes of Bjork, Dizzee Rascal, Quincy Jones, Ennio Morricone and Roisin Murphy - contributes a new piece in a programme that features a landmark string of specially commissioned world premieres from Sonic Youth’s Jim O’Rourke, St. Etienne’s Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory – who curates the programme with members of the BBC Concert Orchestra and specially chosen guest instrumentalists, conducted by Clark Rundell.  Newly minted arrangements of Basil Kirchin’s own music – including realisations of his classic film scores - complete a wide-ranging and fascinating closing concert
